What is a Fan Coil Unit?
Fan coils are one of the most popular types of air conditioning systems used in new build and refurbished commercial premises.
CIBSE Guide B2 describes a fan coil unit as “a packaged assembly comprising heating and cooling coil(s), condensate tray collection, circulating fan and filter, all contained in a single housing”. Fan coil units recirculate air from the space continuously through the coil(s) either directly or via the void in which the fan coil is located.
A separate chiller provides chilled water and a central air handling unit provides tempered fresh air. The majority of fan coil installations use ceiling void mounted units, although a significant number of projects specify vertical chassis/recessed or cased units.
Types of Fan Coil Units
Biddle have a variety of fan coil units available, comprising various sizes and styles of unit, suitable for different applications and types of projects. So why should you choose a fan coil for your property?
- Relatively low capital equipment cost
- Comparatively small in size
- Offer individual control
- Flexible to cater for changes in use of office space, partitioning etc.
Use of PIC Valves
Projects increasingly ask for pre-assembled valve set solutions that fit directly onto Biddle fan coil units.
Biddle utilises valve set assemblies in close collaboration with valve manufacturers to project specifications, addressing space and duty requirements while supporting project engineers to obtain consultant approvals.
Valve Sets are assembled in the UK and are thoroughly tested. Shipments are carefully labelled and packed for easy installation on-site or we can install them in our UK based manufacturing plant, alongside your fan coil units. Local assembly and stock enable a fast turn-around of project orders with maximum design flexibility, helping project engineers to achieve A-grade consultant approvals and to deliver their projects on time and within budget.
